The route moves from Negombo Lagoon and Wilpattu through the ancient cities of Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, then into Dambulla, Kandy and the central highlands before continuing through Ella, Yala, Galle and the southern coast to Colombo.
